Blabberize.com

I investigated blabberize.com and viewed its purpose for a reading language arts classroom. Creating a blabber is extremely easy to do and does not take long at all. The process begins by uploading a picture of a person, object, or animal that you want to do the talking in your video and then crop the image to the desired size. When you finish each step, you click the arrow on the bottom right of the picture to proceed to the next step. After choosing the size of the picture, you need to create the size, shape, and location of the mouth on the object that will be talking. The next step gives you three options of how you want to create sound; you can use a microphone, upload something already recorded, or record using a telephone. A password is needed to get on the site and the username/email is tiffany.gottowski@cuw.edu and the password is reading.
I created a video of an intelligent looking owl sitting on a book and had it telling my students some helpful ideas to remember when trying to choose the correct book to read. I would show this to students on the first day of school so that we can dig right in to reading and they have some ideas of how to pick a great book. This is a great tool because you can choose any picture and add any type of mouth that you desire and it says anything you want. There is so much freedom in creating the blabber and students will enjoy the funny pictures talking. For younger students the blabber could read the whole book to them and they would enjoy it because it is new and exciting instead of listening to their teacher all day. For older students it would be a great way to introduce new books, such as informational, because you could have the author’s picture and talk about him/her and what time period they were from. I would recommend using friends or families voices if they are willing so that it is not always the teacher’s voice on the videos that the students hear.
I recommend using this tool in your classroom and had a blast learning about it. It gave me a variety of ideas and would be great station for learning centers. The only problem was that I had a difficult time trying to create the mouth. It is great because you get total freedom in the mouth design but I had no idea how to even begin creating the mouth so it was a lot of trial and error.
